What is the Hero's eXperience?

The Hero’s Experience is an Educational Interactive Storytelling Game from eXperience, Inc. It is designed to honor each child’s unique gifts and creativity. In the Hero’s Quest, a child gets to create a mythic character, such as a powerful wizard or a mighty knight or a brilliant artificer. Each Questing Group consists of three to seven children of similar ages, where one adult, acting as the story teller, guides the children through a fantasy story where they are the heroes. The children work together to solve problems, such as negotiating a peace treaty between feuding kingdoms, solving the mystery of the artificers’ puzzle door, answering the gnarled tree gnomes’ mystic riddle or holding off the hordes of savage slime goblins while the Kings’ Wizard works out the spell that will lift their curse and turn them back to wood pixies.

Are Swashers Safe?

Swashers have been used in children’s programs for 11 years and caused no significant injuries of any kind. Swashers are designed to BE SAFE for children to play with. All our new Swasher designs are carefully field tested before we allow children to use them. In order to be allowed to play with our longer Swashers, made in the shapes of spears, halberds and two handed swords, children must pass a test where they demonstrate their ability to play safely with the longer toys.
At our programs, we emphasize both physical and emotional safety for the children playing Swasher Games. In Swasher play, children are taught to develop an awareness of physical and emotional safety, which they learn by playing by our Swasher Safety Rules.

Is playing with Swashers good for children?

We’ve been doing this for a long time and we have no doubt that the answer is yes. Everyone, adults and children alike, likes to play and move and likes to pretend and imagine and to aspire to live up to ideals. As a culture, our imaginations are awakened by stories of mythic heroes and brave deeds. We love those mythic heroes because they are inside of us and a part of us. Playing with Swashers encourages children to be active, to move and run AS they awaken and bring the mythic hero inside themselves out in their imaginations.
Numerous studies by the medical community have shown that children can gain many physical and psychological health benefits from more active, loosely structured play. Our program is very well equipped to provide children with just that.

We believe that children have fun and feel better when they are doing things that are really good for them, that encourage them to grow, to socialize with others and awaken and explore imagination. Many of our campers come back to us again and again and leave with smiles on their faces, talking excitedly to their parents about the amazing things that happened in the story that day. We believe these stories speak for themselves.

How do you choose and train your Quest Leaders?

Every Quest Leader that works for eXperience, Inc is selected very carefully. We look for dedicated individuals who care about storytelling, education and children. Each of our employees, before being hired, must go through a five step selection process in which they must pass an acting and story telling audition, visit one or more of our programs so that our Quest Leaders can observe them interacting with children, pass two interviews in which we test their conflict resolution skills and creativity and pass a back ground and fingerprinting check.
Our staff training is a week long intensive course, in which we teach them the mechanics of the Hero’s Experience Game, methods of story telling, conflict resolution and awareness of physical and emotional safety. Every one of our staff is certified in First Aid and CPR before they ever work with children in the field and our Branch Managers are all certified First Responders.
Once a year, our staff are trained in Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention by the Blue Sky organization. All staff working with children receive this training before being placed into the field. Our staff receive basic training in four different conflict resolution and disciplinary systems, including Love and Logic, Inspiring Invitations, Red Light/Green Light and the Transformation Talk. As creating community is a goal of eXperience, Inc, our staff are trained to and encouraged to turn to each other for help and advice when dealing with difficult situations in the field.

What is eXperience, Inc's teaching philosophy?

We believe that a non-authoritarian and non-coercive teaching environment encourages a receptivity in children which enables them to develop their self-awareness. Children are supported in becoming empowered, while learning skillful responses and ways to resolve emotional and social distress. The puzzles and mysteries, moral dilemmas, and other challenges of the Quest are regarded with creative imagination, as playful opportunities for experiential learning, cooperation, and problem-solving. Our goal is to create a nurturing and safe environment with an adventure that is full of fun and freedom, to assist the children in the realization of their own unique gifts and talents, the achievement of their personal goals and the experience of self-fulfillment and empowerment within a group setting.

What is the eXperience, Inc. cancellation policy?

If you cancel with two or more weeks notice before the registered event, all monies paid will be fully refunded. If you cancel a session with less than two weeks notice, we will strive to fill your child’s spot with someone from our wait list, in which case we only charge you a $25 cancellation fee.
